Before there were browser incompatibilities – well almost, there was the lucky dip of Swing thick client development. Build something on one operating system and it looks almost nice. Then fire it it up on something else and watch your thing of beauty become a beast. This happened to me today – buttons and layouts are all screwed on windows 7, despite being oh so pretty on the Mac.
So I wrote a limerick which summarises my tempestuous relation with this Java problem child.
An Ode to Swing
Tech mandarins say Swing
Will not hurt you and you won’t feel a thing
But where is my sizzle?
Where is my bling?
